Welcome to New Forest K9 hydrotherapy

Canine Hydrotherapy for Rehabilitation and Fitness situated at the northern edge of the New Forest on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border

Our Services

All dogs are accompanied into the water with a qualified hydrotherapist. A veterinary referral form is required before commencing hydrotherapy.

Rehabilitation

Hydrotherapy for rehabilitation, maintenance or management of your dog’s condition.

Recreational and fitness swims

Hydrotherapy is also an excellent way to improve and maintain fitness and stamina in agility, performance, show and working dogs. It is also very beneficial for dogs which cannot be let off-lead.

Puppy sessions

An introduction to water; teaching your puppy to swim in a safe and controlled manner and ensuring your puppy feels comfortable and confident in the water.

What is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is the external application of water in the therapeutic treatment of disease or injury. The use of water in the treatment of disease is first documented by Hippocrates, but historically, the Romans are the most commonly recognised civilisation to use hydrotherapy.

Small animal and canine hydrotherapy is a recognised form of rehabilitation which aids in the recovery of animals after injury or surgery. A complimentary therapy, it specifically uses the properties of warm water to aid rehabilitation.

Our Facilities

Our purpose-built, heated pool is half sunken into the ground. This combines the benefits of shallower ramp access, making entry into the pool easier, and enabling your pet to swim and be on a similar level to you outside of the pool, keeping them at the optimum height.

The pool has a swim area of 5m x 3m and is 1.2m deep and heated to a temperature of 28 – 30°C. The water is sanitised with chlorine and tested a minimum of twice daily.

We also have twin swim jets allowing us to create more resistance if necessary and allowing us to increase the intensity of the swim. This can also be used for fitness training for sports dogs.

Every dog is fitted with one of our collars and either a flotation aid or a harness prior to entering the pool. We rinse dogs in the shower prior to entering the pool and again after the hydrotherapy session. We can shampoo your dog if you would like. Just bring your shampoo with you to the appointment. All dogs are towel dried with our super absorbent towels.

Testimonials

Debbie is great with my Paps

I’ve been taking my three Papillons to Debbie for a monthly swim for a few years now. They are not the most eager to get in the pool on their own but are warming to it on every visit. They really enjoy going to their swimming lesson and Debbie is fantastic with them. Each one take it in turns to do a few laps of the pool. It’s great exercise for them and they always sleep well afterwards!

Impressive Facility

Our nine year old Sprocker Spaniel Barney underwent extensive surgery in February 2019 for cruciate ligaments on both rear legs together with realignment of both knee caps. For his recovery hydrotherapy was recommended. He attended New Forest K9 Hydrotherapy under the care of Debbie Hansford RCH, who whilst providing the most impressive facility performed with the utmost care and consideration. Debbie can be thoroughly recommended.

Highly Recommend

I highly recommend Debbie at New Forest K9 Hydro. I took my Westie jack for a block booking when one of his back legs was not as strong as the other and caused him to limp. He is now perfect thanks to Debbie ❤️❤️

Very Knowledgeable

I can highly recommend Debbie at New Forest K9 Hydro, we have started this with our GSD who has DM. Debbie is very knowledgeable & patient, her premises are spotlessly clean so if you are considering taking your baby to hydro this is the place to go.
